Deakin International Merit Scholarship (South Asia - Onshore) 2026

The Deakin International Merit Scholarship (South Asia – Onshore) is a tuition fee reduction offered by Deakin University, Australia, to reward strong academic performance among South Asian students. On Subraxo, this is one to read carefully before getting excited: the "Onshore" tag means it's meant for South Asian students who are already residing in Australia, or who are being recruited through an authorised Deakin onshore agent, not for students applying directly from India. If you're planning your move from India and haven't relocated yet, check with your Subraxo counsellor about Deakin's equivalent offshore or international merit scholarships instead, since this particular one won't apply to a straightforward India-to-Australia application.

For students it does apply to, there's no separate scholarship form to fill out. Every prospective international student who applies for a Bachelor's or Master's coursework degree at Deakin is automatically screened for it, and the outcome is shared along with the admission decision.

To qualify, a student needs to meet all of the following:

• Be applying for a coursework Bachelor's or Master's degree at Deakin University.
• Hold citizenship of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Maldives, Mauritius, or Bhutan.
• Be residing in Australia at the time of application, and/or have been recruited through a Deakin-authorised onshore agent.
• Meet Deakin's English language and academic entry requirements for the chosen course.
• Not be holding any other Deakin scholarship or bursary at the same time.

The award tier depends on academic performance, measured as a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) from the student's most recent qualification:

• A WAM of 70% to 74.9% qualifies for the 20% tuition reduction.
• A WAM of 75% or above qualifies for the 25% tuition reduction.

Since assessment happens automatically, Indian students on Subraxo don't need to submit anything extra for this scholarship. It's worth keeping transcripts and WAM-equivalent percentage calculations ready anyway, since Deakin's team may reference them during evaluation.

Partial Funding , up to 25% of tuition fees

The scholarship reduces tuition fees by either 20% or 25% off the total indicative fee stated on the offer letter, applied for the full standard duration of the course. It doesn't cover living costs, travel, or visa expenses, so Indian students budgeting for Australia should still plan separately for those through Subraxo's education loan and living-cost calculators.
